Ballard Power Systems Shares Rise 6%

Ballard Power Systems shares rose 6% during after-hours trading Tuesday after the company said it had agreed to sell 10 fuel cell modules to Poland-based Solaris Bus & Coach for the company’s fuel cell buses.

Deliveries are set to start in 2017, and Solaris’ first order contained 10 FCveloCity-HD fuel cell modules, each module has 85 kilowatts. The buses are a “highly flexible clean energy mass transportation solution, since they will be capable of operating on routes that have no overhead or catenary wiring,” the company said.

Ballard Vice President Karim Kassam said the company believes the 10 buses being deployed initially will be the first of their kind in the world.
